We, The Bribers

Amidst the mindless “breaking news” which the so called news channels show every minute a day I saw one more news breaking on my TV screen, one politician’s son was caught taking a bribe of 1 crore rupees. In the whole of this piece of information the part which caught my attention was the sum of 1 crore, it’s a huge amount of money, rest was not even worth mentioning forget about being a headline. You may ask why so? Have you ever read in Newspaper that the sun rose from the east today or set in the west? A person related to an influential person taking money for favors is as common in India as common cold. Well, we have a reputation to save, for nothing we are amongst the most corrupt nations in the world. Where we would be without people like Sarbjeet singh, at least somewhere we are leading apart from some science and technology related fields, oh I forgot population is another area we specialize in. We have accepted bribery as a part of our culture and we are not shocked or even surprised to see someone demanding or taking a bribe, we on the contrary seek the ways to give it and get our work done. Ask anyone who have travelled in train with a waitlisted ticket about it and he will proudly tell you that how he managed to secure a berth with 50 bucks when the whole train was jam packed and TTE was asking for 100. It’s a matter of national pride for us, that’s why we send the most corrupt to the parliament so that they can lead us, it’s not without a reason that they are called leaders. A leader should show the way and guide the masses and that’s exactly what they are doing, I mean 1 crore is something we all can look upto and make it our personal goal to either take or give that much amount in bribe. This is not the first time someone has set up such an example in bribery, I will say this time he was not able to do justice by getting caught. You should look at the illustrious career records of our politicians and you will know what I am talking about here. Fodder scam, Telecom scam, Hawala, Taj corridor, Bofors, Oil for food etc. etc. the list is pretty long and the total amount will have as many zeroes in it as the total money deposited in any nationalized bank of india but keeping the tradition alive none of these people whose names were taken in these scams were caught or proven to have taken the money, compared to this the endeavor of Mr. Sarabjeet is not even worth mentioning. And keeping the Indian tradition of making the most able person a leader or king we have made sure that all of them remained ministers so that as the culture of “If get caught while taking a bribe, get out by giving it” is not destroyed or affected.
I am not at all worried about putting all these corrupt politicians, leaders, bureaucrats or government officials behind bars or brought to justice because that is asking for moon. I am just hoping here that one day we will be successful in bringing back the money they have laundered to foreign soil back to India and in circulation, till then keep watching “breaking news”.
